The Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology (CREST) CREST is a nonprofit organization that uses advanced computer and communications tools to promote renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable development.

Centre for the Analysis and Dissemination of Demonstrated Energy Technologies Renewable Energy Center CADDET offers information on full-scale commercial projects which are operating in member countries through a renewable energy data base available on-line. 

Clean Power Research Clean Power Research is a firm that designs analytical methods to evaluate clean energy investments (photovoltaics, solar thermal, wind, energy efficiency) and builds software programs, such as Clean Power Estimator, based on these methods. These programs are licensed to vendors and other parties to help their customers make purchase decisions.

Chicago Solar Partnership A partnership which builds on the strengths of each of the public and private sponsors to maximize the number of photovoltaic installations within the City of Chicago. The partnership strives to make the Chicago Public Schools the leading school system in solar energy and environmental technology education.

Colorado Governor's Office of Energy Conservation The OEC is a state agency operating as a part of Gov. Energy Diversification Research Laboratory The lab forms part of the Canada Centre for Mineral and Energy Technology (CANMET), a network of energy and mining laboratories managed by Natural Resources Canada. Its mission is to develop and promote the deployment of innovative technologies in the fields of energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Energy Information Administration The EIA is the independent statistical and analytical agency within the U.S. Department of Energy.

Energy Quest The California Energy Commission's Energy Quest is an award-winning Internet site on energy education for students, parents, and teachers.

Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Network (EREN) EREN provides information on programs sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and links to major organizations involved in renewable energy and energy efficiency. Parts of the site are written as an educational tool specifically for students. The Energy Foundation The Foundation's mission is to assist in the nation's transition to a sustainable energy future by promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy. It functions primarily as a grant-maker.  

European Renewable Energy Exchange (EuroREX) EuroREX is a consortium of companies, institutes, and trade associations from more than 30 European countries. Its Website is devoted exclusively to the commercial promotion of renewable energy in Europe. EuroREX is partially supported by the European Commission's Directorate General for Energy (DGXVII) and provides news on policies, legislation, research, and politics at a European, national, and local level.

Florida Solar Energy Center The energy research institute of the State of Florida, the Center is nationally recognized for comprehensive programs in solar energy and energy efficiency. FSEC operates within the State University System and is administered by the University of Central Florida, U.S.A.

Global Accreditation Program for Photovoltaics PV GAP is a global, PV industry-driven organization to promote and maintain a set of quality standards and certification procedures for the performance of photovoltaic products and systems to ensure high quality and reliability.

International Solar Energy Society (ISES) ISES represents an international network of scientists, businesspeople, and decision makers in more than 118 countries around the world. These form a Global Alliance aimed at the advancement of renewable energy through research, technology transfer, commercialization, and education.

Interstate Renewable Energy Council IREC works to accelerate the sustainable use of renewable energy sources and technologies in and through state and local government activities. IREC supports market-oriented services targeted at education, coordination, procurement, technology transfer and linkage with national laboratories and associations, collaboration with industry, uniform guidelines, and customer protection. IREC's members include state energy offices, other municipal and state agencies, national laboratories, solar and renewable organizations, and individual members.

Maui Solar Energy Software Corporation MSESC, Inc., based in Hawaii, manufactures a PV design and analysis tool. The PV-DesignPro software simulates the operation of PV energy systems.

Midwest Renewable Energy Association MREA is a non-profit educational organization that promotes renewable energy and energy efficiency through workshops, an annual Energy Fair, tours of homes, and at its ReNew the Earth Institute. The ReNew the Earth Institute features working renewable energy systems, hosts workshops in the local community, and houses the office.

Million Solar Roofs Initiative The U.S. Department of Energy program to install photovoltaic panels on one million rooftops in the United States, announced by President Clinton to the United Nation's Special Sesssion of Environment & Development, 27 June 1997.

National Aeronautics and Space Administration NASA has developed a Surface Solar Energy data set created for the Renewable Energy Industry. The data set contains 52 monthly-averaged parameters that were specified by the U.S. Department of Energy National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Text files, color plots, and contour plots on a global scale are available.

National Center for Photovoltaics  (U.S.A.) The Center merges the core photovoltaic expertise of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Sandia National Laboratories, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Centers of Excellence in PV at the Georgia Institute of Technology and the Institute of Energy Conversion at the University of Delaware. The NCPV serves as DOE's initial point of contact for potential investors, customers, manufacturers, and distributors interested in all aspects of photovoltaic technology and applications.

National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project NEED, a nonprofit organization based in Herndon, Virginia [U.S.A.], promotes energy education among U.S. schools as a means to encourage intelligent decisions on a national basis about energy resources and energy use. NEED issues an annual energy education report card that takes the measure of the "energy literacy" of middle and secondary school students. NEED develops and distributes curricula that cover all forms of energy, including solar, and recognizes students and teachers who demonstrate leadership in energy education.

National Renewable Energy Laboratory  (U.S.A.) NREL is a leader in photovoltaic research, providing a wealth of information on cutting edge technology and applications.

North Carolina Solar Center The North Carolina Solar Center, located in the College of Engineering at North Carolina State University, provides programs and resources which help people throughout North Carolina take advantage of solar energy. Services available to the public include a toll-free hotline, a referral network of professionals, technical and design assistance, free publications, curriculum materials for teachers, training sessions, tours of a demonstration Solar House, and a reference library.

Northeast Sustainable Energy Association NESEA is a nonprofit membership organization founded in 1974 to foster the use of renewable and sustainable energy, the responsible use of nonrenewable forms of energy, and to convey the value of these practices for the preservation of the environment.

PV-DesignPro Windows 95 and Windows NT software designed to simulate photovoltaic energy system operation on an hourly basis for one year, based on user-selected climate and system design. Worldwide climate data is included.

Renewable Energy and Efficiency Training Institute (REETI) Private, nonprofit organization that encourages the development of sustainable global markets for renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies by facilitating the transfer of training and technology expertise.

Renewable Energy Policy Project (REPP) Nonprofit organization which supports the advancement of renewable energy technology through policy research.

Resource Database of OPT Publications  DOE's Office of Power Technologies' Web site has recently developed a searchable database of its publications. By using keywords or selecting a particular technology, you can pull up an alphabetical list of OPT publications, their descriptions, and how they can be obtained. Technologies include biomass, geothermal, wind, solar, hydrogen, d istributed power, and superconductivity.

RETScreen Natural Resources Canada's RETScreen Renewable Energy Project Analysis Software contains modules to analyze photovoltaics, solar water heating, passive solar heating, solar air heating, wind energy, biomass heating, small hydro, and ground-source heat pumps. Developed by CEDRL and 50 experts from government and industry, RETScreen, which also includes an on-line manual and weather data base, can be downloaded free-of-charge.
